Who are you? What is your role? And what do you do?

I joined Sellick Partnership in September 2008 a few months after I had graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, with a degree in Accounting & Finance. I have recently completed my studies towards my CIMA qualification and will be a fully qualified CIMA member when I have completed my practical experience.

My day-to-day activities include cash allocation, bank reconciliations and providing weekly performance reports to managers and directors.

How would you describe the culture of Sellick Partnership?

There is a strong social culture at Sellick Partnership. We will often go out after work for a few drinks and this is a great chance to talk with people you might not see that much around the office. I believe that such a strong social culture has formed due to the fact that all employees, from directors to the most junior members of staff, work in the same office space. This helps to create a real feeling of togetherness.

Why did you choose finance as a career path?

I have always been interested in business, particularly how they make their money and establish their brand and products, and been good with numbers so I felt a career in finance would best fit both my skills and interests. As my career progresses I hope to learn more about how businesses work and eventually be in a position where I am responsible for making key decisions.

Holding a qualification such as CIMA opens up great opportunities for me to work across the world and is very rewarding financially.

Since joining Sellick Partnership, what training / support have you received?

The training and support I have received since joining Sellick has been fantastic. Soon after joining I began studying for my CIMA exams at a nearby college. Sellick have been extremely supportive, allowing me paid leave to attend courses and have also been extremely helpful in allowing me to have extra time off close to exams. I feel extremely lucky to work for a company that has provided me with so much help and support.

As well as this I received excellent training to allow me to do my day-to-day activities and have recently been involved in training aimed at using social networking to provide new opportunities for the business.

What is your most memorable experience to date whilst working for Sellick Partnership?

My most memorable experience at Sellick would have to be the first team building event that I went on in North Wales. It was a great opportunity to meet everyone and get to know each other better. All of the activities were kept secret from us and it was only when we got there that we discovered we would be climbing Mount Snowdon! Although the climb was extremely tiring it was a fantastic experience and one that I won't forget. Once back at the hotel we had to write and perform a short play on what we had done over the previous two days - these certainly provided a few laughs! The rest of the night was spent either at the bar or on the dancefloor!
