Five Ways To Be Happy At Work

Most people seem to think that if you are unhappy at work then it's because you made yourself feel that way. Whether this is true or not I don't know, as I suspect a horrible boss or grumpy colleagues could be the cause of it. But let's face it, we do spend most of our time at work so we may as well try to feel happy about it.

I have put down five of many easy tips to help us all be happier at work:

1) Take a more positive attitude towards work. Just because you think something might go wrong doesn't mean it will. Taking a glass half full attitude is always more uplifting then the half empty view. You might find it helps rub off some optimism to your colleagues too.

Give yourself a little treat to look forward to for completing certain tasks. For example, "if I get Project X completed by lunchtime I can buy myself a fun lunch". These little treats will help you to feel more motivated.

Be nicer to your colleagues. It doesn't take much to smile and it will make other people feel better too. I read somewhere that smiling scientifically does make you feel happier as well as the people around you.

Work can be very difficult in whatever field but in this tough economic situation there are many people that don't even have a job or any income. That's got to be something to be grateful for, if you are in a job.

Book time off wisely so you don't crash and burn! It is essential to take breaks in the year to refresh and recharge your batteries. Nothing worse than being left with four weeks of annual leave at the end of the year and having nothing to do.

If you really think that no amount of optimism or positive attitude will make you feel happier in your job then perhaps you are in the wrong job. But don't worry, we can help you do something about that. Contact me or any of our friendly consultants for a confidential discussion on 0161 834 1642!
