Can you guess what causes the most office arguments?...

…. Air-conditioning!

According to the latest survey to be released, unbelievably air conditioning that is turned up too high over the summer is triggering the most rows between office workers.

Three quarters of those questioned said the chilly atmosphere leads to arguments over what the ideal temperature should be, with 90% moaning their office is too cold and some even saying the icy conditions make them less productive! Add into that 47% believing air conditioning spreads illness,  68% per cent saying they would prefer fresh air instead, but, proving that British workers are extremely difficult to please, 61% of the 1,200 surveyed said being too hot at work was worse than being too cold!

Phew!

It has to be said that the air-conditioning is a pretty contentious subject at Sellick Partnership, with some members of staff (ahem.. Anna Gibbons… ) preferring a continous icy stream even in the winter months, with some others (i.e everyone else), preferring a combination of air conditioning when its actually hot and just an occassional open window at other times.

So what do you think? Are you one of the three quarters of us are that are suffering "air con rage” or are there for more important things to argue over in your office?

How about "Where are all the teaspoons?", as they always seem to disappear in offices.

'air con rage' - love it! I agree with you, aircon can definitely be a bit of a controversial subject in offices.

Brilliant blog, Amy! I am thrilled Gibbons has finally been named and shamed!

I think that I need to take this opportunity to defend myself....I think that there is always an element of compromise, which is sometimes overlooked. My ideal would be to sit next to the window - as I agree that fresh air is better than having the air con on. But overall I would say that the air conditioning is one the most contentious issues in our office - that, and the state of the fridge!

Great blog Amy, although having sweltered through my second summer in the Leeds office without air conditioning I would say that it is such a luxury people should consider themselves lucky they have the option for it at all! (Although I have found that a Twister ice cream is a very good alternative!)
