The Cream of Recruiting?

Harrods, one of the most prestigious retail groups in the UK, has won an armful of honours at last week's Recruiter Awards 2011, picking up three prizes for its recruitment practices.

Accolades handed to the retailer included Best Candidate Experience, Most Effective Recruitment Strategy and Best Employee Referral Strategy, and the company paid tribute to its workforce after collecting the gongs.

Sarah Andrews, Harrods HR & Retail Director, shared the secret of their success, "We are delighted to have been successful in three key categories in 2011's Recruiter Awards for Excellence. Harrods recognises that much of its continuing success comes as a result of the quality of its people.

"These three awards are testament to our on-going commitment to recruiting the absolute best talent on the market, and to the effectiveness of both our internal and external recruitment campaigns.”

So the message is simple, invest in people. The best recruitment practices always involve spending on talent - there are no shortcuts. This is a practice we follow at Sellick Partnership when recruiting internally, and an approach we try to pass on to our clients.

Investment in people is crucial, and has a hugely positive impact on the performance of an organisation. If proof of this were needed, sales at Harrods have continued to rise despite pressure on consumer spending having a negative impact on many companies in their sector.

Congratulations to Harrods for picking up so many awards and proving that investing time, energy and money in staffing is the key to success.

Great article! If you can't seem to find the right person for the position than just wait. Wait until that perfect person comes along who can really help your company. People are the best investment a company can make.

"Investment in people is crucial, and has a hugely positive impact on the performance of an organization." This is the most reliable truth that recruiters can rely on. We are in the financial recruiting sector and agree that selecting hires that will positively impact their organization is the most important and difficult task we face.
