Euro 2012 - The tension is building...

We all seem to have gone a little football mad at the moment. Euro 2012 is upon us and everyone loves to bring out the flags and merchandise and get together with our friends and watch in anticipation of victory and magnificent score lines in our favour.

I personally seem to be living in a house where I am exposed to every single game, and I have made a deliberate choice to embrace the glorious game and get behind my country. Please do not get me wrong, I am not an expert and certainly not used to witnessing victories, after all, my team is Nottingham Forest. We still yearn back to the glory days of winning the European cup twice, even though it was over 30 years ago.

However, within the 2012 tournament, expectations seem to be low, so who knows, maybe our boys will surprise us and at this stage all we can ask for is that we go through, it would be fabulous to win the group, but going through will do.

All this leads very nicely to introduce the football tournament Sellick Partnership East Midlands are hosting. On the 12th October we are hosting an afternoon of 5-a-side football where the best of the best finance and procurement professionals can compete to raise their victorious trophy. Who will be this years East Midlands Sellick Partnership 5-a-side football champions? On a serious note, our main aim is to raise as much money as we can for local charity 'When you wish upon a star'. This fabulous charity raises money for terminally ill children and grants them wishes which provide lasting memories and cherished moments. 

If we raised £300, this would enable a child to have a day out in a limousine with a celebrity - if we raised £85,000, this would enable us to charter a plane for 125 children and guardians to go the Lapland for the day. Anywhere on this spectrum would be great, but we need help as we cannot do it on our own.

We want to raise as much money as we can for our chosen charity, providing families with a well-remembered day of memories and local finance professionals who enter a team and join us for the tournament will help us to do this. Of course, the afternoon will be great fun, with a buffet and drinks to celebrate (or commisserate on) the days outcomes, providing those professionals taking part with the opportunity to network.

So even when Euro 2012 is over, I'll still be living and breathing football, but this time I will not become fatigued by it as I am so driven by this charity and aware that every penny we raise is for such a good cause - it will make such a positive impact for the families who need some smiles and bright days to look forward to.
