Getting the organisation match right

Being reasonably new to the Sellick Partnership team I thought I would share my thoughts and fears prior to joining a new organisation.

You go through an interview process but don't really get the chance to gauge the culture and personality of an organisation or the office.

What would the first day be like as the "new guy?" Would I be greeted to a silent faceless corporation with barely a hello from the team? Would I walk into a "boiler room" scenario with a Gordon Gekko type boss and the rest of the team swinging from the rafters trying to stitch up everyone around them, including colleagues?

I made the decision to try and find the real heartbeat of the company and thoroughly research the culture of the organisation I was joining by reading every part of the website: blogs from people throughout the organisation, team profiles, the values, the culture of the organisation, rewards and also progression opportunities.

In short, I was able to walk in on my first day with a clear understanding of how the personality of the organisation I was joining was closely matched to my own personality. I would share this advice with any candidates in a similar situation looking for that new job - ensure you research thoroughly to ensure the personality fit is right.

If you feel it is the right time to make that change in your career please contact me to discuss taking that leap - craig.mcmanus@sellickpartnership.co.uk or call 0191 261 8585.
