'It's not rocket science'...

The Liverpool office are recruiting for a new consultant. Exciting - yes. Challenging - yes!

I distinctly remember asking Jo Sellick about five years ago: "What is your biggest challenge for the growth of the business?" His answer: "Finding good people who can successfully do the job." Five years later I have a feeling he may say the same thing.

It's not rocket science! I completly agree, however, it is a very challenging job that requires an individual to hold a number of different attributes and skills. For the right individual, I honestly feel it is one of the most exciting and challenging professions - well, that involves one wearing a suit anyway.

I think that the profession has moved on even within the time I have spent in the industry! You still get the odd individual roll of the eyes when you say you are a recruitment consultant, however I do feel that the job is starting to get the recognition it deserves.

To be successful in this industry, you need to possess a number of attributes. And it is not a one size fits all scenario! Hence the reason why really good consultants are hard to find.

I will list a number of the personal attributes that you need: intelligence, excellent communication skills, determination, tenacious, resiliency, commercial awareness, be a team player, have a strong work ethic - to name a few.

I personally think that it can be an extremely rewarding role. It is a profession where in a good company you can go far, based on your own ability. One thing that I like about the sector is that it is not a profession where you simply progress because your dad knows the CEO, or simply because you've sat in the same role for years and your face fits! You can go far if you have all the above skills, and you are prepared to work hard for success.

Recruitment can mean long hours and a lot of hard work! But, if you have all of the things I've mentioned and more, it is a career with excellent prospects! So, if you are still reading, and think you have what it takes... please forward your CV to the Liverpool office!
