How many people I wonder wake up on a morning (particularly a Monday) feeling a bit negative, especially when they are in a job that they don't enjoy or if they are having a bad week? I came across an article on the internet recently with some tips on how to turn your day around, if it hasn't started out quite as well as you had hoped.
The article suggested that there is no such thing as a 'run of bad luck', and claims the human brain creates patterns out of events and remembers the events to fit a pattern. If you feel you have had a bit of bad luck then there is certainly nothing to suggest that this will continue.
Be prepared to change your mindset; if you think your day will be challenging because that is how it is started then you are making a self-fulfilling prophesy. If you are having a difficult day, don't talk yourself into thinking your whole day will be the same and then perhaps it won't be!
Think about the big picture. If something bad has happened, think about how bad it really is... is it something that you will still remember in a couple of weeks time? If not, is it really worth blowing the situation out of proportion and making yourself feel worse about it then you need to?
Define what you think of as a 'good' and a 'bad' day. Yes, a bad day is if your house is broken into or your car stolen - but is it that bad if you miss your bus and have to wait an extra 10 minutes for the next one? Probably not. By defining this, you are likely to have far more good, than bad days.
Lastly, focus on everything that is going well in your life! This will make everything seem brighter and better and perhaps make you realise that your day isn't quite as bad as you think!
