The big kick-off!

Finally the date is upon us, Tuesday the 11th of January, the opening night of the Sellick Partnership's Manchester Professionals Football League. The seven week group stage kicks off with all sixteen teams in action featuring much anticipated clashes such as Sellick vs. the CFS, Carillion vs. KPMG and of course Manchester City vs Biwater. All the teams involved are looking forward to a tournament which will provide the perfect tonic for those post-Christmas blues.

On Thursday all the captains attended an evening at the Bridge pub where the finer details of the tournament were thrashed out. Agenda points such as additional rules, etiquette and fines were discussed with donations to St Anne's Hospice enforced for any individuals straying from the rules. The event as a whole was well received with plenty of pre-season banter exchanged in anticipation of the tournament.

Such has been the demand to take part in the league that plans are already afoot for the next tournament towards the end of the year. Obviously this will depend on the success of this year's event, but we easily have enough interest to accommodate 24 or even 28 teams so the potential is there to grow and grow.

Everyone at Sellick Partnership is really looking forward to getting cracking and raising money for St Anne's Hospice. The best of luck to all the teams competing and may the best team win.

Sellick got their campaign off to a great start with 12-7 victory over the CFS. The scoreline was perhaps a bit flattering for Sellick but the hosts were delighted to kick off the campaign with a victory. The only downside was team captain Ray Wareing had to be replaced with an ankle injury...the team is now sweating on his fitness for next week.

So did Sellick Partnership win their opening match?
