One thing I have always appreciated is the little things in life.
The things that other people may find insignificant, irrelevant or completely take for granted. I however find that it is often the little things that mean so much more.
What do I mean by the little things in life? Well, anything! Each to their own for this one. For me, its things such as a smile, a thank you, or a dancing orange owl (all will be explained).
I think that sometimes, we simply forget about how much difference the little things can make to someone else.
My inspirations behind this blog are extremely different, yet both had the exact, same effect on me. Firstly, let me begin with a particular television advert which has recently graced our screens. You may have seen it yourself, the fluorescent little being that dances and shimmies itself to anything electrical… yes, that's the one, the Eon Energy advert (you're probably thinking what on earth has this go to do with anything). This advert was introduced to me by a colleague who was infatuated by this cute little creature (which we later decided was in fact a very brightly coloured owl), and was adamant that I would appreciate it too. Although I was sceptical as to how a 90 second advert can be so entertaining I proceeded to watch...
How could this be? I found myself grinning like a Cheshire cat!
Am I really that easily amused? Apparently so.
This little dancing creature genuinely did brighten up my day, and to be fair the owl seemed pretty happy too.
My second inspiration is from something more of you will connect with.
Recently I spoke with a candidate whose current role was due to end later that week. After speaking with her, we managed to have her at interview and placed in a job the Monday after, meaning she wouldn't even be out of work. This was the first time she had registered with an agency and didn't really know what to expect.
During the process she called me to say just how thrilled she was by ourselves, and that she had never worked with an agency before but couldn't believe just how helpful, friendly and professional we were.
This may seem as if it is the norm... receiving praise just for doing your job, but to me it means a whole lot more. Knowing that we have done our jobs right, and having that acknowledged is a fantastic feeling.
Particularly in recruitment we all know how a day can begin one way and end another. Yet one thing that I love about Sellick Partnership is that you experience these 'little things' especially when you need them most; whether it's a thank you from a candidate, praise from a manager, or a colleague making you smile with a bright orange owl. It is these things in particular that make me happy to work for Sellick Partnership and proud in knowing that our staff are the kind of people who do the 'little things', but make a whole lot of difference.
