Plans to bring forward Public Sector projects is set to slow the rise in unemployment forecast for 2009

19/01/2009

A recent Government bid to create up to 100,000 jobs by bringing forward public projects has been welcomed by the unions and most quarters within industry and the public sector.

The Prime Minister Gordon Brown believes that speeding up school, technology, transport and environmental projects will help counter the effects of the current recession. This is amid fears that unemployment could reach three million later this year.

It is still unclear what proportion of the 100,000 would be new positions, and how many were existing jobs that it was calculated might be axed if it weren’t for the extra spending.

This is good news for our local government candidates as we forecast that there should be an increase in requirements for both legal and financial temporary workers to assist with the administering of these projects.

We are keeping in close contact with our Local Authority clients across England and Wales and are well positioned to be the first in line should extra staffing measures be required.
