Christmas job search

As everyone gears up for Christmas, a lot of candidates decide to put their job search on hold. The colder mornings and evenings make job seekers less motivated to search the job boards after work, and often their holiday entitlement is non-existent as we approach the end of the holiday year. However now might not be the best time to join the crowd and put your job search on hold. In fact it could be quite the opposite. As applications to roles slow, and candidates put their job searches on hold the outcome for vacancies is that there is less competition at this time of year!

Here in the Midlands office, we are just as busy as any other time of year with vacancies. We have a number of exciting permanent positions with either a December or New Year start.

Finding candidates though is getting tougher and tougher. People have changed their mind set and are putting their search on hold till the New Year, often missing out on perfect opportunities.

My advice to anyone thinking of putting their job search on hold because they think the job market has gone quiet, or because they would struggle to interview in work hours, is don’t! Now is the perfect opportunity to look for a new role. Your competition has taken the festive period off, so take advantage! If you are working with a credible agency they will fight your corner and be consulting with their client to ensure they are aware that the market is challenging this time of year and that holidays have long been used up, and they will work to secure you an interview around your work schedule.

If an opportunity is perfect, don’t miss out because of a preconception that there isn’t any point in looking!
