As dedicated financial recruitment specialists, Sellick Partnership actively support and collaborate with accountancy bodies throughout the UK including The Chartered Institute of Public Finance (CIPFA). CIPFA is a leading professional accountancy body specialising in the public sector and over the years, the Newcastle office in particular have built a strong and successful relationship with them. We work closely to encourage students to succeed and keep qualified members across their global network well-informed with regards to current public sector performance and challenges.

Each year Sellick Partnership are proud sponsors of the CIPFA North East Annual Dinner at the The Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle Quayside. The dinner presents an opportunity to develop professional networks, welcome new members and spend time with friends and colleagues.

This year, in the early evening, guests congregated in the bar area to greet one another before being seated in the Quay 7 Restaurant for dinner. We unfortunately missed the opportunity to enjoy drinks on the terrace by the River Tyne as a result of the not so glorious British weather.

Attendees were welcomed by Regional Executive Member and CIPFA North East Annual Dinner organiser, Bruce Parvin. Bruce gave an insight into the programme for the evening before introducing Regional President, Clive Johnson.

Firstly, the sponsors of the dinner were thanked for their ongoing support including ourselves, ENGIE and Mazars before recognising representatives from other professional accountancy bodies; AAT, ACCA and CIMA.

Clive then focussed on CIPFA North East’s regional priorities;
  • Providing an excellent service to members
  • Increasing collaboration with other institutes and regional bodie
  • Increasing influence both regionally and nationally with employers and the wider accountancy professio
  • Supporting CIPFA students

To conclude, special tribute was paid to devotees of the Executive Committee who are now stepping down.

David Young, retired NHS Finance Director who has devoted his time and knowledge to the public sector, in particular helping CIPFA and the HFMA develop close links within the region.

Secondly, George Clark was also paid tribute to, having worked with CIPFA on developing links with other finance institutes. In addition, George has taken on the role of Chair twice during his career, organised a significant number of events throughout the region and contributed to the achievement of several awards. George has always made the team at Sellick Partnership feel extremely welcome and valued at the CIPFA events we have sponsored and continues to entertain us with his sharp wit and charming nature. The self-proclaimed ‘Geordie Scot’ was presented with a token of appreciation in the form of beer and a tankard, a gift which I’m sure he was delighted with.

Rounding off the speeches was CIPFA President, John Matheson. John discussed in detail CIPFA’s presence and success in both the North East and nationally, especially raising CIPFA’s profile and attracting new students and members.

After indulging in a fabulous three course meal, the bar remained open till midnight with carriages at 12:30am.

At Sellick Partnership we believe accelerating and sustaining relationships is the springboard for success and events such as the Annual Dinner provide the perfect opportunity to do this. As Consultants at networking events, we, pride ourselves on our professionalism but always strive to be memorable and aim to distinguish ourselves from competitors within our field.

We hope that everyone enjoyed the evening and our company as much as we did theirs and are extremely looking forward to being part of the next CIPFA North East event.
