CPD Training Event - The Law of Compulsory Purchase

Sellick Partnership are delighted to host another CPD training event in conjunction with 4-5 Grays Inn Chambers, focusing on the topic of 'the Law of Compulsory Purchase'.

This topic was nominated by candidates who attended our last CPD training event, as well as recommended by clients who view this as extremely relevant to their current workloads. The seminar will be led by experienced practitioners in the field of Compulsory Purchase - David Altaras and Marc Samuels, who will explore the 'Powers, Procedure and Practical Application' of Compulsory Purchase and explore whether there is a need for reform in this area.

Sellick Partnership received excellent feedback from our previous CPD training event regarding the new 'EU Public Procurement Rules', also in conjunction with 4-5 Grays Inn Chambers. With an overwhelming positive response from attendees we're thrilled that the seminars are providing value - 100% of those attended said overall they thought the course was 'excellent' or 'good', and 89% of those attendees thought the content and speakers were 'excellent' or 'good'.

Compulsory Purchase is a current 'hot topic', and we've seen a significant increase in roles that require candidates to have knowledge and experience of handling compulsory purchase orders within local authority legal teams. Whether this be within the context of property or planning law, it is accompanied by a significant buzz around regeneration work.

Over recent years the government has placed major focus on local economies, in the form of community regeneration and development projects. Compulsory purchase orders have assisted in driving the success of urban regeneration projects forward. Due to the success, there has been an increase in the demand for local authorities to implement such procedures to obtain a certain part of land or property without the consent of the owner.

As a result, the demand has had an effect on local authority legal teams in both the contentious and non-contentious aspect, which has ultimately impacted the locum market in the specified fields. I look forward to learning more on this topic from David and Marc at the seminar tomorrow, along with those of you that are attending!
