LLG Weekend School

Every year Sellick Partnership attend the Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) Weekend School which is an excellent opportunity for us to catch up and meet with new contacts who work in local authorities across the UK. This year was no different. On Thursday 30 March 2017 we made our way to Warwick University where the conference has been held for the past two years where it was good to see faces both new and old!

As an exhibitor we always have a range of ‘goodies’ and prizes to give away along with barrister Chambers and other firms who come along to the conference in order to network with the delegates. This year we decided to shake it up and replace our well known sweet stand with a Mr Whippy – which included rolled out chocolate flakes and various toppings and was a great success and certainly kept the delegates going through their talks!

To balance this and keep things a little bit healthy we are conducted a prize draw to win a FitBit, so if you took place in this please keep an eye out on your emails over the next couple of days!

Doreen Forrester-Reeves (President of LGG) spoke at the finale of the conference to round off what was a couple of days, the speech was one of the highlights of the event. From the impact of the IR35 changes that effect locums, to her duty as President, she gave all rounded talk on how the Local Government Lawyers are still at the forefront of change. Doreen has been recommended by the board to stay on for another six months as president before she hands over her legacy to the next President for 2018.

As ever the Friday evening black tie event ended on a high with a talk from BBC commentator Rob Northman. He kept us entertained throughout his interview that included bloopers and anecdotes from his 25 years as sports broadcaster. Rob has interviewed the likes of Tiger Woods and David Beckham and with his witty delivery he was a fantastic choice for the after dinner entertainment.
