How did you become interested in recruitment?

I left my career as a professional chef to pursue more sociable hours, I’d worked in hospitality for around a decade and was working 16 hour days. I was in need of a more manageable balance. Working in the hospitality industry was difficult at times, of course you’ve got to be resilient in recruitment but you need to be really tough for hospitality – it can be quite draining. When I saw Sellick Partnership on LinkedIn, I knew it was time for a change.

What was it about Sellick Partnership that convinced you to take a role here?

I loved the work culture as it was advertised on LinkedIn and was determined to get the role. It was so different to what I was used to, much more sociable hours, the chance of a better work-life balance, and hybrid working, plus there’s such a great support network. It was definitely something I picked up on straight away.

What is the most challenging part of working in recruitment?

It's often navigating the public sector market, the government and their budgets/freezes can be difficult to manage and really impact my work. In terms of candidates and clients, if there’s a freeze it’s difficult to market candidates if there are none there. It’s all about being tactful and smarter.

What support and training have you been given?

I’ve completed all my module training now and find it’s been so helpful! My manager Maz is constantly supporting me throughout too and helping me learn new things. The team are always on hand to get advice and ideas if there’s a specific challenge being faced, or recommending candidates.

Do you remember placing your first candidate and how did that feel?

My first placement was x3 Band 8A roles within the NHS BSA (Business Support Authority) and it felt amazing! It’s great to be able to ring the candidate and let them know, it’s such nice news knowing you’ve been a part of that.

What’s your biggest achievement to date in your role as a Recruitment Consultant?

My first placement being a high salary AND three of them. It really gave me an incentive and motivated me to continue working as hard as I can.
