In many cases, candidates will become a solicitor through studying law at university, before undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC). However, this is not restricted to all legal professionals, and many study a non-law degree before undertaking the Common Professional Examination or the Graduate Diploma in Law conversion course before taking the LPC.
