Caretaker
Location - Wingerworth
Fulltime - 5 days a week
Part time hours - 15 a week
Permanent position
Starting salary of £8,645.00 per annum and rising through increments to £9,367.71
Sellick Partnership are working alongside a Housing organisation who are looking to recruit a Caretaker on a permanent basis
Key Accountabilities
- To assist in providing efficient and effective caretaking support to the building, including ensuring that the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards and that utilities operate at optimum efficiency
- To be flexible in your approach to working. This will ensure the building is accessible for the working day, accommodate late meetings on rare occasions, weekend access for contractors if necessary and assist in covering for the Council building next door in emergency situations
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To assist in ensuring that heating plant and equipment is efficiently and effectively operated, make adjustments as necessary and report defects and maintenance to the Customer Services Supervisor.
- To assist in maintaining the security of the premises and its contents in accordance with the buildings current requirements.
- To support the recycling and waste management activities for the building.
- To clean light fittings and to test lighting systems weekly replacing where necessary minor parts such as tubes, lamps, fuses, starters and diffuses, in accordance with safe working practices.
- To arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc. and clean up spillages as required.
- To ensure that gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris and that the establishment and grounds are litter free. 2
- To assist in ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the establishment particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. snow clearing, gritting, leaf clearing).
- To empty office waste bins and dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that is available for collection as required.
- To undertake porterage tasks as required, including setting up and clearing away furniture and provision of refreshments where necessary.
- To undertake handyperson duties as directed.
- To maintain appropriate records including fire alarm log book, intruder alarm log book, repair orders and heating system record book.
- To report emergencies in the case of faults with gas, electric and water supply to the Customer Services Supervisor.
- To attend to, where necessary, personnel visiting the site such as Contractors, particularly grounds maintenance and representatives of utilities (gas, electric) and monitor any work being carried out.
- To attend any emergencies or out of hours alarm activation at Pioneer House.
- Such other duties commensurate with the grading of the post as may be from time to time determined.
Experience
- Experience of Caretaking
- Experience of DIY
Specialist Skills and Knowledge
- Be able to carry out general repairs.Ability to cope with the physical demands of the job e.g. lifting, carrying and ladder work.
- Willing to undergo training as required; able to understand and apply Regulations (such as Health & Safety, Manual Handling Regulations etc.)
- Good communication skills
Personal Qualities
- To be flexible and prepared to work evening shifts, split shifts and occasional late night or weekends for meetings or access for contractors
