Sellick Partnership is working in partnership with Birmingham Children's Trust, the largest provider of children's social care in the UK. This highly regarded in-house organisation seeks to improve its legal services team with the addition of new Childcare Lawyers. If you want to join a well organised, high performing, dedicated children's legal services team with a clear vision to improve outcomes for children and families, then we would be delighted to hear from you! The lawyers we are seeking will join a strengthened and increasingly experienced team and help deliver on one of the Trusts' strategic priorities of providing effective legal advice and advocacy work in the family courts. The Trust, based in central Birmingham, has already proved its ability to make improvements and has achieved an improved Ofsted judgement.

Successful Childcare Lawyer applicants will work as part of a well organised, motivated, supportive and friendly Legal Services team. You will be tasked with working with support from experienced line managers on a caseload of childcare matters and will have the benefit of your own legal assistant to aid case management. Aside from this, you will have the added benefit of a centralised administration team and excellent Trust IT support. You will join a stable and experienced sub-team of 6-8 individuals, all working closely together in an extremely supportive working environment.

The IT support infrastructure available with all team staff on Windows 10, MS 365 and Teams. With laptops and mobile phones available for all this has allowed the legal office to adapt to working from home for all staff during the Covid-19 crisis and ensures that the team is well placed to deal with future change as the situation develops. We are flexible in terms of hours and home working.

The courts and legal team along with private practice and the local bar have all worked co-operatively in the national crisis and there are clear protocols about remote working and a developing "next steps" plan.

As a Childcare Lawyer you will be involved in interesting, challenging, and rewarding work; work that will give you the satisfaction of accomplishment that can come from helping vulnerable children and their families. You will have the advantage of undertaking advocacy at centrally located courts and remotely. You will be required to undertake a manageable caseload. You will receive excellent legal assistant assistance with pre proceedings, PLO matters and court bundles which will allow you to concentrate on your casework.

You will also work very closely with the social workers and their managers assisting in developing successful long term working relationships. Working in a collaborative environment, one which encourages schools, health professionals and the police to work together ensures the Childcare Solicitors can do the best job possible for their clients and their teams.

The successful Childcare Lawyer will ideally have some working knowledge of childcare or family law. However, this is not essential and we welcome applications from driven candidates who have worked in any litigious area of the law who are looking for a new challenge and to develop in a new area. My client is unique in this respect. It is rare to be offered the opportunity to break into this rewarding area of the Law. You will be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Legal Executive with a current Practising Certificate. You will have access to an internal, well-structured Induction Programme and operating manual, alongside the support and guidance of members of the senior management team.
