A large local authority in the West Midlands is seeking to recruit a commercial property locum solicitor to join their stable in-house team. The role is to work alongside 2 other commercial property experts and requires someone who is able to pick up a mix of commercial property work, working largely unsupervised. The day to day tasks will be largely related to Landlord and Tenant work, alongside the opportunity to get involved on a number of large scale regeneration projects. The Council currently has 5 such redevelopment projects, which provides a good opportunity for someone to develop in this area.

The hiring manager is looking for someone who can pick up commercial property work such as the below:

  • Landlord and tenant work on behalf of the Council, including issuing new leases and the renewal of leases
  • Handling various types of commercial licences, such as licences to assign, licences to vary, and licences to change use
  • Property management licences
  • Licences and leases to occupy
  • Assignments, variations, surrenders and terminations
  • Some disposals and acquisitions of commercial property and land

Given the current COVID pandemic, this role can be undertaken on a remote basis and reviewed in line with government policies and guidance. This role requires a formal qualification such as a Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent. This is a full time commercial property solicitor role, although the client can consider condensed hours over 4 days.
