Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyer
11 Month Contract - Full-time

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Costs Lawyer/Costs Draftsman to work on adverse claims on a contract of 11 months with likely extension within Central Government. Candidates should have recent costs experience of acting for defendants with an understanding of CPR and the litigation process and practice.

Key Responsibilities of a Costs Draftsman/ Costs Lawyer will include (but not limited to):

  • Maintaining a complex personal caseload, which mainly includes dealing with adverse costs claims and costs budgets
  • Attending detailed assessment hearings at Court and instructing Counsel
  • Acting for Defendant clients on large adverse claims/group litigation
  • Preparation of Points of Dispute
  • Preparation of budgets
  • Responsible for handing negotiations of costs of settlement
  • Ability to advise client and lawyers on complex technical arguments;
  • Experience of preparing costs applications

Required skills of the Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyer:

  • Either a Costs Lawyer with minimum 4 years' experience of Defendant work (with Association of Costs Lawyers qualification)
  • Or Costs Draftsman with minimum 5 years' experience of Defendant work
