Customs and Excise Litigation Lawyer
£26.30ph PAYE + Holiday pay
Contract - Full-time
Litigation Lawyer required to join the Solicitor's Office and Legal Operations Directorate of HMRC. The successful lawyer will be responsible for their own caseload in a busy team dealing with Customs and Excise appeals in the First Tier Tribunal.
The appeals arise when an officer of HMRC makes a decision about Excise or Customs duties and the decision is appealed to the First Tier Tribunal. Our clients are HMRC officers both at a Policy and Operational level. The work is subject to time pressure and the lawyer will be responsible for meeting all deadlines up to and including presenting the hearing so some travel may be required as part of the role.
Key Responsibilities of a Litigation Lawyer
- Litigating appeals before the tax tribunals Maintaining accurate and comprehensible case files
- Providing all litigation support to our clients in relation to those cases
- Maintaining files
Required skills and experience of the Litigation Lawyer
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
- 2+ years post qualified litigation experience is essential
- Reliable legal judgement and appreciation of legal risk
- Proven experience in managing own litigation caseload
- Experience in dealing with Customs and/or Excise litigation is required
