Democratic Services Officer

Location: South West, UK

Duration: 1 -2 months

Role description

A local authority based in the South West requires the assistance of an experienced Democratic Services Officer to cover a planned leave of absence.

The role will focus on providing full administration support for Cabinet decision-making and the wider democratic function of the Local Authority. The Democratic Services Officer will be responsible for working closely with elected members, providing constitutional advice and support at formal meetings. The role will require attendance at some evening meetings.

Key responsibilities will include: agenda planning, report writing, minute taking and clerking meetings. The Democratic Services Officer will be required to work closely with elected Councillors, Directors and senior officers, ensuring legal compliance and governance is adhered to.

Person specification

-Ideally educated to degree level or above, the successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in a democratic services role within local government.

- Demonstrable experience of clerking meetings, producing agendas, reports and clerking meetings.

- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

- Strong stakeholder management skills.

- Demonstrable experience of providing constitutional advice to members.

- Previous experience of using the Civica system - Modern.Gov is highly desirable.
