Experienced Information Governance Officer/ Lawyer required for an initial 3 month period to join a local authority based in Kent

A District council in Kent are looking for an Information Governance Officer who has experience and a genuine interest in GDPR. You must have a thorough understanding of the latest Data Protection Act/ Regulations and have experience putting them into practice. As the Information Governance Officer you will be responsible for leading on GDPR / DPA 2018 implementation and providing support to the Director of Corporate Governance / Data Protection Officer on GDPR execution across the Council. Other duties will include:

  • Liaising with the Council's corporate functions such as Operational Services, Corporate Resources, Corporate Governance, HR and Finance
  • Monitoring and ensuring internal compliance with GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and FOIA 2000
  • Providing practical guidance to the Council's operations
  • Conducting pro-active data protection impact assessments
  • Maintaining the Council's record of processing activities and information assets register as required under the GDPR
  • Providing on-demand data protection and FOIA advice to the Council and its employees
  • Drafting and vetting a broad range of data privacy agreements
  • Dealing with a wide range of data subject rights requests including data subject access requests and complaints
  • Liaising/ preparing relevant responses to data protection and FOIA inquiries from the UK Information Commissioner's Office
