A Combined authority based in East Anglia is seeking a Corporate Governance and Monitoring Officer to join their legal services team on a permanent basis.
This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation which is inputting key strategic infrastructure and transport developments across the area which you will be the lead on. This authority was established in 2017 with a vision for the region to become the leading place in the country to learn, live and work. As such, they have some large transport and development projects which are finalising and are looking to move forward with the assistance of 8 local authorities within the region.
You will be required to deputise for the Director where required to deliver a high quality legal service, sound governance advice and provide political management leading to open and transparent decision making. You will provide strategic legal support for the Combined Authority and Business Board on complex legal matters. You will be managing a small experienced team of 3-4 lawyers. You will act as the Monitoring Officer to ensure that the constitution and procedures are up to date so you must have knowledge of constitutional and democratic process matters.
Ideally the candidate has experience within commercial law however this is not a necessity for the post. Candidates must have strong knowledge of public sector practice and statutory obligations within governance. Candidates must be able to drive due to the travelling involved for meetings and the location of the authority.
