Principal Data Protection and Freedom of Information Lawyer required to join a local authority based in Northamptonshire on a locum basis for a period of 12 months. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, this role would be to work remotely until being office based has resumed. This is an urgent requirement therefore candidates must be available to start ASAP.
Our client is looking for someone to come on board and report directly to the Monitoring Officer at the authority. You will have direct management of 4 data protection and freedom of information officers.
These officers have been with the organisation for some time so are very self sufficient however they require someone with a legal expertise to assist them with the more complex and contentious matters which come through. The type of matters are diverse and range from SAR, FOI and police disclosure requests.
This role is a newly created role within the organisation and you will be the lead data protection officer for the authority. There is scope for this role to develop over time and be involved with other local authorities and their data protection work. You will also be assisting the Monitoring Officer with other matters so a chance to get involved at a senior level.
Given the seniority of the role, the client does require someone who has previous experience within DP/FOI and ideally within the public sector but is happy to consider all applications. They are really looking for someone who is invested in information law and shows a real passion and drive. There is the option to work 1 day from home and flexible working hours could be considered.
We encourage interested applicants to apply immediately to be considered for short listing. Alternatively, should you require further information or wish to discuss your suitability before applying, please contact Chelsey Newsom in our Manchester office for a confidential discussion.
