South East

Planning Solicitor

£38,000 - £41,500

We are delighted to be recruiting for a Planning Lawyer to join a small South East Council on a permanent basis.

The Planning Team currently consists of one Planning Lawyer and has a legal assistant. This is a great opportunity for newly qualified solicitors or a more junior lawyer to gain further exposure into Planning law as there will be full training with complex cases alongside faster progression within the team.

As it is a small council there will be exposure to councillors.

The Planning Lawyer will be undertaking a personal caseload of planning & highways work and providing legal advice. Further duties will include:

  • Drafting, negotiating and concluding planning and highway agreements and other legal documentation
  • Handling more complex planning agreements
  • Dealing with Section 106 agreements
  • Assisting as necessary with major development projects and attend project meetings
  • To act as an advocate where appropriate, at planning hearings, planning inquiries, etc.
  • Drafting reports to the planning and planning sub-committee
  • Attending Planning committees on a Tuesday Evening, once or twice a month

The successful Planning Lawyer will be suitably qualified, solicitor or equivalent, and will possess a sound understanding and experience of planning law. They should also possess experience of drafting complex highways and planning agreements and giving legal advice.

Prior experience of working in a local authority is highly desirable, but is not a requirement, as our client will strongly consider those from other backgrounds and more junior/newly qualified lawyers.

The council are operating fully remotely for the foreseeable future, with a high-degree of remote working as restrictions lift.

We encourage interested applicants to apply immediately to be considered for short listing. Alternatively should you require further information or wish to discuss your suitability before applying please contact Zanub Najmi in our Manchester office for a confidential discussion.
