Principal Democratic Services officer is required for a local authority based in the Home Counties for an initial 6 month period with the view to extend thereafter. You will be working alongside the Democratic Services Manager and the Head of Legal and will be responsible for overseeing the democratic services function.

As a Principal Democratic Services Officer, you will be providing a high quality service in relation to the proceedings of the Authority's decision making bodies. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Advise Officers on Access to Information issues
  • Advise the public and Councillors on their rights of access to meetings and papers.
  • Service meetings of the Authority
  • Provide day-to-day advice and support to trainees or Democratic Services Officers

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of law and practice as it relates to Council, Committee and Executive meetings and formal hearings. We would be interested to hear from candidates who are looking at progressing from a democratic services officer or who has done a similar role within a council.
