Project Finance Manager

Sellick Partnership has been engaged to recruit a technically proficient Investment Finance Manager for a highly successful and instantly recognisable retail business based in Manchester City Centre. The business has been consistently growing over the past few years and they are now looking to continue to outperform their competitors by driving their strategic plans further.

This position/team plays a critical role in this transformation with specific focus around the financial understanding to implement this strategy. You will be looking at strategic decisions presented by the group and appraising these based on certain factors. You will work closely with the wider business to understand and explain the viability of business direction. This will include business partnering to manage their expectations in relation to the actual outcome of each and every investment proposal.


In this role, we will look to you to support the business in end-to-end decision making. You will partner with colleagues across commercial, retail operations, logistics, and marketing assessing the profitability of strategic investment decisions. The role requires a self-motivated and focused person who will quickly establish themselves as a key contact challenging the status quo and striving for best practice.

We are looking for a versatile individual who is able to liaise with both finance and non-finance stakeholders to gather the information they require to correctly appraise projects. Building a wider communication network would offer you an unprecedented opportunity to see the business at a higher level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently review and challenge business cases before they are brought to the Board
  • Challenge and present a summary of the forecasts from the project managers each month, gaining an understanding of changes to forecast, opportunities and risks against budget, and sensitivities within the projects
  • Independently evaluate the achievement of the benefits claimed by the project managers and the costs declared as part of the subsequent post investment appraisal process, and applying the learnings to future strategy and project delivery
  • Liaise with multiple stakeholders to discuss the direction of the group

The Person

The successful applicant will be a proactive, fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ICAS, ACCA or CIMA) with extensive experience within a similar role e.g. a management consultancy role. Ideally you will have experience surrounding appraising bids however, if you show a strong commercial acumen coupled with a finance background we would love to hear from you.

You will have a high level of analytical skills with a real ability to translate numbers and complex data sets into meaningful insight coupled with an inquisitive nature with a real ability to engage, challenge and influence colleagues at all levels. You will have confidence presenting your findings to different audiences and senior leaders.

You will have a creative and innovative approach to problem solving and analysis; delivery orientated - able to work in pressurised environments, meet multiple deadlines and manage own priorities.

You will also be able to demonstrate business acumen and ability to gain knowledge across the breadth of a variety of functions. Good communication skills - able to translate financial information and create successful business relationships. You will also be able to take a 'big picture' view with demonstrable internal consultancy and influencing skills, while possessing a keen eye for the detail.
