Sellick Partnership are actively recruiting for a Tax Accountant, on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. You will be responsible for the timely and efficient delivery of corporation tax returns, VAT returns, employment taxes and compliance, simultaneously building and maintaining effective relationships at a senior level, to support strategic priorities. You will be engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, have strong data analytical and communication skills and can make a quick positive impact

Day to day duties of the Tax Accountant role include:

  • Preparing and submitting tax returns for the University and associated companies
  • Preparing and submitting statutory returns for HMRC-VAT returns, Intrastat returns and EC Sales List
  • Providing support to the payroll team and tax colleagues in relation to employment taxes and global mobility
  • Playing a key role in ensuring overseas tax (Corporation Tax, Withholding Tax and Permanent Establishment) compliance, supported by external advice where necessary
  • Developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and advisers, including HMRC
  • Liaising with and be a representative on formal and informal committees/working groups
  • Supporting the strategy by providing technical tax support and ensuring the tax implications of major capital investments are fully understood
  • Assisting in delivering VAT and tax training
  • Supporting VAT and tax compliance audits
  • Providing technical tax support and expertise to the Organisation and respond to VAT and tax queries received through the Helpdesk
  • Developing a knowledge of tax and VAT rules as they relate to the University
  • Supporting and deputising for the Tax Manager in periods of holidays and absence
  • Supporting the continuous development of systems and processes to ensure the tax team is able to respond to information requests in an accurate, clear and timely fashion; · Ensuring that key system processes are mapped, documented and training documents available
  • Maintaining technical tax expertise through continuous personal development and attend conferences and training as required

As a Tax Accountant you will have:

  • A recognised professional tax or accounting qualification (e.g. AAT or CTA) or qualified by experience
  • Tax Accountant or equivalent experience, having taken responsibility for completion of corporate tax and VAT returns
  • Experience of considering all tax implications in a variety of business scenarios, fact finding and seeking specialist advice and guidance as required
  • Current knowledge and expertise of relevant tax legislation
  • Experience of working in a busy working environment including; the ability to establish priorities and consistently deliver accurate and timely data to deadlines
  • The ability to work using own initiative, problem solving and proactively look at processes to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness
  • Good team working and interpersonal skills, excellent analytical skills and an understanding of risk and control
  • A good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including; Word, PowerPoint and strong Excel skills
  • Strong IT skills and experience using systems for analysis and reporting
  • Excellent demonstrable communication skills with the ability to write reports and present financial information to non-specialists, both written and oral;
  • A flexible approach and attitude.

You may also have:

  • Tax experience in a large complex organisation
  • Experience of SAP
  • Knowledge of overseas tax requirement.
