Job Title: Zero Emissions Project Manager

Line Manager: TBC - Functional Business Programme Manager

Main purpose of role

Responsible for the management, coordination and completion of a multiple of functional projects on time, within budget and within scope. Primarily responsible for the delivery of new ZEV capability into our client. Ensuring that the Projects are run in line with the project methodology. Working for the Functional Programme Manager and Head of Projects and Programmes, this role will help to scope and delivery key business activity in line with business objectives and business plan deployment (BPD). Work alongside the programme and business team ensuring reporting is consistent and timely.

The role will have responsibility and accountability for controlling the delivery and spend to a defined budget. Track the specific project spend during the life of the Programme and projects within. The role also has the responsibility for managing input to business wide savings and capital expenditure. Responsible for the documented handover of the benefits to the accountable business owner. The role will not have direct line management responsibility but will be responsible for supporting and influencing others and developing skills at all levels. Assisting the team to work in an efficient and effective way.

Main Responsibilties

Management of agreed ZEV project(s)

    • Responsible for the delivery of key projects, agreed deliverables, scope and outputs.
    • Awareness of all assigned ZEV Projects, agreed owners and predicted benefits
    • Regular updates with project owners / leads to review progress, obstacles, successes and dependencies on / for other projects
    • Escalation to the programme manager, Steering Group and /or functional Leadership team to provide support and solutions to obstacles
    • Visibility of all project business cases in the region in order to align to the overall BPD delivery plan and delivery tracking of spend vs. proposed benefits
    • Provide a strategic future view of change / projects and UK wide, to inform decision making and project creation
    • Responsible for Governance and Reporting arrangements to agreed Sponsor and Programme Manager
    • Responsible for ensuring the Governance and Reporting happen in line with agreed approach.
    • Lifecycle management and Business Change management of assigned project
    • Provide guidance and coaching to regional resource to support planning and deployment of projects, utilising the standard Project life-cycle tools
    • Challenge behaviours to support and facilitate improved project creation, management and development
    • Support the documentation and development of business requirements, plans and other key artefacts
    • Responsible for the overall plan incorporating all workstreams
    • Responsible for the blueprint and vision document

Run Delivery Steering Group/Working Group

  • Progress updates for the Projects and benefits, aligned to understanding and agreement of project owners
  • Project Gateway: Working Group/Steering Group decision making on new projects and prioritisation of current projects


Person Specification


  • Excellent skills in MS Excel and MS Project
  • Know how to use MS Teams
  • High level of self-organisation, motivation and management independence
  • A background in PMO management - Certified (P30, Prince2, Agile, MSP etc)
  • Experience of using various project/programme methodologies and approaches
  • Can demonstrate experience of managing teams both directly and through a matrix
  • Minimum of 5 years experience of managing projects/change within a complex organization
  • Conversant with and able to work with specialists in the use of Programme and project management
  • Tenacious and adaptable - can deliver at pace with strong influencing skills
  • PMO delivery - demonstrable on time, quality, cost and a focus on the outcome
  • Outstanding knowledge of analysis, reporting and defining value
  • A business acumen with a strategic ability
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Can deal with complexity and ambiguity and cut through noise effectively
  • Experience in Zero Emission desirable
