Manchester Professionals' Football League VII

Nights have drawn in, clocks have gone back and the weekend household TV battle commences again with Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor dominating proceedings. It also means it's time to focus on the annual football competition run by Sellick Partnership for Manchester based professionals. It is our seventh tournament and I may live to regret this but…it looks very likely that we are going to hit our 24 team target to play in the four leagues of six teams way ahead of schedule.

The interest this year has been superb and the current cup holders - RBS /NatWest, and the plate holders - Air Energi have re-entered the competition to defend their crowns. There are at least five 'new' teams this year also which keeps things fresh and more interesting. I write a similar thing every year but the success of this is all down to the chosen captains of each company or organisation and the great facilities provided by the Powerleague in Ardwick.
The captains have to galvanise support, sell the idea to their superiors for the £200 fee! (it is a charity league with all proceeds going to St Ann's Hospice ), and motivate their colleagues to get to Ardwick on those cold Tuesday evenings. These guys do a great job and keep the league ticking over without any fuss, keep the integrity of the league intact by ensuring all fixtures (irrespective of their league position at the time) are fulfilled. The role of the Captains cannot be under estimated and much appreciated by all.

The standard of football in the competition is excellent and fitness levels are unbelievable! The referees comment that is the best natured and best standard that they officiate at the venue from all the business league!
