The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), is the professional body for people in public finance. As a leading provider of expert recruitment services into the Public and Private Sectors, Sellick Partnership work exclusively with numerous CIPFA qualified professionals in addition to those who are currently studying for their CIPFA qualification.

CIPFA North East covers areas between Tees Valley up to Berwick-upon-Tweed, consisting of hundreds of qualified and student members. Various CIPFA events are held throughout the year giving individuals the opportunity to attend seminars where speakers cover various topics, take part in panel sessions, network with likeminded professionals as well as catch up with old friends.

Having supported many regional CIPFA events, Sellick Partnership were delighted to sponsor this year's Annual CIPFA Dinner at the The Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle Quayside.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a champagne reception and spent time introducing themselves to others and chatting with friends and colleagues. Sellick Partnership invited several candidates and clients to share the evening. It was refreshing to speak with said individuals in a relaxed environment and discuss personal recruitment needs as well as give an insight into current market conditions.

Once seated for a fabulous three course dinner, guests were welcomed by Regional Executive Member and CIPFA North East Annual Dinner organiser, Bruce Parvin. Bruce gave an insight into the programme for the evening before delivering a moving and inspirational speech on the impact of public services, relating to the event's chosen charities; Teenage Cancer Trust and Clic Sargent.

Bruce went on to introduce the newly elected Regional President, Clive Johnson. Clive spoke about the economy and the pressures that the public sector faces on a daily basis. He explained that on account of austerity, working within the public sector is often challenging, yet seeing the contribution that he and his colleagues give to society makes it extremely rewarding and provides a real sense of achievement. Whether that is through better Health and social care services, schools or the environment in which we live, the things that have a significant impact on our lives are generally public sector funded.

Concluding the speeches was CIPFA's National President, Mike Owen. Mike highlighted CIPFA's continued presence and success in the North East before recognising newly qualified members. He discussed the institute's progress regionally, nationally and internationally, including CIPFA's partnership with the African Congress of Accountants (ACOA).

Entertainment was provided in the form of a classic 'pub quiz' organised by CIPFA regional representative, George Clark, which our team narrowly missed out on winning, finishing in second place. A raffle was drawn with some fantastic prizes, including a Kindle Fire and Rugby League tickets raising in excess of £400, for the chosen charities.

The bar remained open until 12.00am giving plenty of opportunity to catch up with other friends and colleagues and enjoy some further networking.

Naturally, attending these events, the focus for us as consultants is on promoting Sellick Partnership and the work that we do. However, dining with the 'CIPFA family' was simply a chance to celebrate and enjoy the success and growth of CIPFA in the North East and appreciate time with friends. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all and Sellick Partnership are extremely looking forward to being part of the next North East CIPFA event.
