Game Time!

Sellick Partnership are actively involved in several different sporting events throughout the year such as the Manchester Professionals Cricket League and the Manchester Professionals Football League.

This year we wanted to get the ladies involved, and yesterday saw the first outing for the Sellick Partnership's netball team! Eight of us made our way over for our first game of the league, many of whom hadn't caught a ball in a long time, and some who had never even played before! To all of our surprise, we won our first game.  After much anticipation and nerves, it turns out that everyone had a great time, and we are all looking forward to our game next week.

If you are thinking about, or have been thinking about getting a team together in your workplace, there are several ways to do it.

My advice would be:

a. Be brave! It can feel like a big responsibility to organise and be gather a team together each week. Put the feelers out, it is surprising how many people are keen to get involved.

b. Do your research and be organised; there are several companies out there that run recreational leagues, it is about finding one that works for you location wise, and one that is accessible to you after work.

The benefits are also fantastic:
1. Team events provide an excellent opportunity outside of work to socialise and get to know your colleagues. You never know who might be a dab hand at your chosen sport, and it will give you the chance to get to know people you wouldn't necessarily speak with day- to-day at work.

2. It is a great way to blow off some steam! Work can be stressful and the days can be long; running around for an hour after work can be a great way to brush the day off.

3. The health rewards - it goes without saying that exercise is good for you. You can also have a beer afterwards.

4. It's great to be involved in team sport and have a regular hobby that is doing something unusual from your normal weekly routine, or if you like routine, make an evening sporting session a part of it. If you have been thinking about getting involved, push yourself and do it. It's not as bad as you think!
