How to decide which job offer is best for you….

05 Feb 2015
Ironically, you might spend months on the job hunt with no luck and then two job offers will come at once.  That's what happened to me before I accepted the role here at Sellick Partnership. This is a great position to be in and you need to make the most of the opportunity. So how do you decide between the two job offers?

It may be tempting to just go for the higher paying job, but there are other factors that are worth considering.

Career progression

You need to have a think about what your long term career prospects are at each company. It's important to be strategic when moving jobs and consider how the role with affect your professional growth. You don't want to end up in a situation where you're being paid well but are stuck in a job with no prospects. What you want is a job that will help you to reach your long term career goals.

Work / life balance

Consider what will be expected of you in terms of your working hours and think about how much this will affect your personal life. The commute to and from work will also affect how much time you have to do things other than work like spending time with your partner or family and friends. Of course there are sacrifices that you will have to make, but it is worth considering how the job will affect your life as a whole.

Office environment

Think about where each of the offices are located, is one in the city centre where you can nip out on your lunch to treat yourself to a new pair of jeans? Or on the other hand would you prefer to be away from the city so that you can save your pennies?

Company culture

Company culture is one of the most important factors to take into account. Unlike your salary, this is not something which can be negotiated; it is already set in stone. Think about when you went in for your interviews, or if you were shown around the office. Which company made you feel more comfortable? Which one had an environment where you would enjoy your work and flourish?

Don't be rushed into making a decision. A company worth working for will acknowledge that moving jobs can be a life changing decision and give you time to make the right choice.

Stuck between two job offers? How did you come to make your final decision? We'd love to hear your thoughts.
