Cumbria - more to offer than you might think...

Having recruited across Cumbria over the last 14 months, I can honestly say the opportunities for experienced Finance professionals are vast. At Sellick Partnership we work with a number of public and not for profit sector clients across Cumbria and have a successful track record of placing temporary, contract and permanent individuals within these organisations.

However finding these candidates is proving ever more difficult. At Sellick Partnership we often speak to people who don't believe that exciting career opportunities exist outside of major cities, but this simply isn't the case. I work with a number of different clients in the region, who can not only offer exciting opportunities, but this goes hand-in-hand with career development all within some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK.

Here are just some of the reasons that I've heard as to why finance and accounting professionals have decided to relocate to Cumbria.

1) Location, location, location - home of the Lake District and the most breath-taking scenery in the UK. This is the place to be - to live and work - and to have an excellent quality of life to spend with your family and friends

2) Cumbria is an energetic region - tourism and energy play a big part in forming the back-bone of Cumbria's economy with thousands of fell walkers, mountaineers and outward bound enthusiasts packing the lakeland villages and towns all year round

3) Commuting Links - linked to the rest of the country by the M6, to Scotland via the M74/75 and to Newcastle upon Tyne by the A69, connectivity to Cumbria is excellent. There is also a principal station at Carlisle on the West Coast mainline opening up access to Newcastle, Leeds and Glasgow.

4) Relocation packages are available - in order to attract the best candidates away from UK cities many employers in the region are prepared to make the move as smooth as possible. This could mean that your idyllic country pad is more achievable than you think!

5) Competitive packages - these are just some of the benefits that I have seen available with recent roles I have placed:
  • Full and ongoing training
  • Flexible working
  • Excellent opportunities fordevelopment
  • Competitive pension schemes
  • Employee discounts
Personally I can see why people would want to relocate to Cumbria, it is such a beautiful part of the country and provides opportunities for people to really make the most of their spare time - whether you love mountain biking, water sports, theatre or fine dining (Simon Rogan's L'Enclume is situated in the region, along with numerous other high end restaurants) there is something for everyone.

Finance and accounting professionals are notoriously hardworking, often in high-pressured roles, but I feel really lucky to be able to offer our North West candidates a break from the rat race, and a real quality of life.
