Springing Forward

30 Mar 2015
We are already a quarter of the way through 2015 and the last week has seen the start of spring with the spring equinox and the solar eclipse. Just yesterday, the clocks went forward, bringing us longer, lighter evenings. I for one, feel that change is in the air!

Spring and Easter time are my favourite times of year as they signal new beginnings and new opportunities. During this time, we begin to see nature "springing” into life after the winter months. The gardens are once again coming alive, with new shoots starting to come through and daffodils are in abundance which for me herald the start of spring.

A lot of people use this time of year to "spring clean” their homes; getting rid of the old to make way for the new. We can all be guilty of keeping hold of things that are no longer of any use for us or serve any purpose. This can also apply to our workspace. Perhaps now is a good time to also have a workspace clear out. By doing this, you can help declutter your mind and in turn increase productivity.

The longer, lighter evenings also give us the chance to get outdoors more and do those things that we might not want to do on a cold, dark winter evening. Exercise offers many benefits, including a healthier mind and improved productivity in the office. I will certainly be taking advantage of the lighter evenings by building up my fitness levels ahead of taking part in the Wirral Coastal Walk in June in aid of the local hospice. Although I completed it last year, my aim is to complete it in a shorter time and I can only do that if I'm fully prepared!

This is also a good time to look at the plans and goals that you set at the beginning of the year and review what progress you have made over the past few months. If for any reason you haven't started something you set out to do in January, there's no reason why you can't start it now.
