Where's your competitive streak?

My husband recently signed up to the Great Manchester Run with his work colleagues in aid of a few charities. I was initially unaware that out of all the European cities, Manchester is home to Europe's biggest 10k. It was fascinating to see literally thousands of people of varying age, ability and race take part in such an event. The atmosphere was electric and I even spotted a few people dressed in banana outfits and as chickens! However, what really caught my eye was the number of companies encouraging their employees to take part in such an event. My husband (who is not naturally competitive) developed a slightly competitive streak over the last few weeks determined to be the first out of his work mates and to raise the most for charity.
The benefits of fund raising on behalf of a company includes a heightened sense of team spirit, presents a positive corporate image to employees, clients and onlookers, offers an opportunity to socialise and bond with work colleagues away from the natural work setting and most importantly is good for both the mental and physical state. Competitive attitudes can help to achieve challenges encouraging one to do better, provides extra motivation and helps achieve the desired results.

Congratulations to everyone that ran the 10k including Hannah Cottam and Mike Hoyle from Sellick Partnership. It has certainly got me thinking about how I can get more involved in helping out for a good cause.
