The Hot1000 and Recruitment

As you may remember, Sellick Partnership were included in the London Stock Exchange's list of 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain last month.

To say I am overwhelmed with this accolade is an understatement. As a business we were selected alongside only 22 recruitment companies in the UK, and this recognition is testament to our entreprenurial leadership team who have pushed the boundaries within our recruitment sectors and differentiated Sellick Partnership as a market leader.

To put our industry into context of the wider UK picture, the recruitment sector is currently worth £27.6 billion - a figure which may surprise some, but should also highlight the significance of this sector on the UK economy. The report focused on 1,000 SMEs out of the 4.5 million nationwide and identified those that really are going to inspire Britain in 2014.

Interestingly when looking at the North/South split, of the 1,000 companies, we were 1 of 108 companies identified in the North West, with other companies identified in all other areas of the UK, and 267 being identified in Greater London. The list was by no means South East centric, indicative of the trend we are seeing more commonly with businesses moving away from the capital and into new areas.

We were judged on a range of factors, and benchmarked directly against our competitors, including the fact that we have shown revenue growth in at least 3 of the last 4 years, outperforming our rivals in the same sector. Other criteria actually ignored turnover altogether and assessed our business by increase in employee numbers, our online presence and expansion of workspace, something we are always investing in; over the years, we have witnessed individuals move up to Associate Director level, offices expand and find new premises, and an almost unheard of staff retention rate.

The research by the London Stock Exchange, in partnership with the Daily Telegraph has shown it is almost exclusively SMEs across the country that have generated new, net job creation in the UK since the financial crisis, highlighting the importance of raising awareness of these businesses, and the fact that more needs to be done to nurture and support these companies.

Furthermore, the research identified those businesses that were growing much faster than their peers and, having had an outstanding 2013, we feel that this is testament to our continued commitment to our markets, and the recognition of our quality of service. We have worked hard to respond to the requirements of our clients, whether that be by working to tight deadlines or by supporting their growth by setting up teams of people who understand the budget constraints many businesses are working with.

We are responsive and flexible, hiring only quality recruitment consultants who are intelligent, business-savvy and ultimately committed to providing a service which exceeds that of their competition. We genuinely believe in doing a 'great' job for our clients (whether they be candidates or the client bringing us the work) and it is fantastic that this has finally been recognised. As a sector that is often misrepresented within the press, this achievement will allow us to shine a light on recruitment as an industry to be a proud member of.

The final list that was put together "highlights the firms that are spearheading the UK's economic recovery - the 1000 companies to Inspire Britain” and we are very proud to be one of them!
