Sellick Partnership is delighted to be exclusively working with a leading Tier 1 construction and infrastructure business to recruit a Construction Solicitor.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established in-house legal team supporting a broad portfolio of high-profile construction and infrastructure projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will work closely with commercial and operational stakeholders, providing pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of non-contentious construction matters while helping to manage legal risk across the business.

Construction Solicitor - Role Overview

Reporting into the General Counsel, the Construction Solicitor will play a key role in supporting the business on contractual and commercial matters. The position sits within a collaborative in-house legal team and offers exposure to a wide variety of construction, commercial and project work.

This role is predominantly non-contentious, with responsibility for reviewing, drafting and negotiating construction contracts, advising project teams throughout the project lifecycle and liaising with external legal advisers where required. Occasional involvement in contentious matters may arise, although previous disputes experience is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of construction and commercial contracts
  • Advise on contracts with clients, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers
  • Support project and delivery teams with day-to-day legal advice and contractual issues
  • Draft and maintain template agreements and standard contractual documentation
  • Provide commercial legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction projects
  • Assist with claims-related correspondence and contractual risk management
  • Work alongside external solicitors on specialist legal matters where required
  • Deliver legal training and share knowledge across the wider business
  • Provide occasional support on contentious matters, including adjudications

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with ideally 3+ years' PQE, although candidates with relevant experience outside of this will also be considered
  • Strong experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Construction sector experience gained either in private practice or in-house
  • Good working knowledge of standard construction contracts, including JCT and NEC
  • Commercially minded with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders across all levels of the business
