HB Public Law is an innovative and ambitious shared legal service operated by and based in the London Borough of Harrow and providing legal support to the London Boroughs of Harrow, Barnet and Hounslow, together with Slough Borough Council. HB Public Law are looking to recruit a Lawyer or Senior Lawyer to join their highly regarded Criminal Litigation and Regulatory Team. This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a varied and rewarding caseload across four local authorities, advising on matters that have a direct impact on local communities. Applications from newly qualified lawyers with a determination to learn are welcome, as well as applications from those with litigation experience. Whether you are currently working in local government, private practice, central government, or another relevant environment, we would be keen to hear from you.

Responsibilities of the Criminal Litigation & Regulatory Lawyer:

The successful Criminal Litigation Lawyer will manage their own caseload and provide practical, solution-focused advice to our clients on a variety of criminal litigation matters, including but not limited to:

  • Fraud
  • Fly-tipping
  • Licensing matters
  • Drafting and issuing summonses
  • Planning enforcement prosecutions
  • Environmental crime
  • Trading standards
  • Regulatory prosecutions

They will work closely with officers and senior managers across the client authorities and will have opportunities to undertake advocacy. Depending on experience, the Criminal Litigation & Regulatory Lawyer will also support and mentor junior colleagues, contribute to training initiatives and help develop best practice across the team.

What the successful Criminal Litigation Lawyer will need:

We are looking for individuals who are motivated, collaborative and committed to delivering high-quality legal services.

You will be:

  • A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) with litigation practising rights, or soon to qualify
  • Experienced in any type of litigation work (e.g. Criminal, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, Licensing, Regulatory etc)
  • Able to provide practical, proportionate and risk-based legal advice
  • Comfortable managing your own caseload and prioritising competing demands
  • A strong communicator with excellent client care skills

Working Arrangements

HB Public Law operate from a hybrid office and lawyers typically attend the office two days per week, together with any required court attendance and client meetings (where these are not held remotely).
