Role Title: Financial Controller

Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 + 12% annual performance bonus

Hybrid: 4 to 5 days a week onsite with flexibility around business needs

Location: Nottinghamshire

Sellick Partnership are working with a leading organisation within the public transport sector who are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their finance function on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of a broad range of financial activities while supporting the Head of Finance & IT and contributing to the continued development of the wider finance function.

The successful candidate will play a key role across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial controls and statutory accounting, whilst also having exposure to procurement, IT and wider business operations. The role will also provide the opportunity to support and develop a small finance team and deputise for the Head of Finance & IT when required.

The responsibilities of the Financial Controller will be:

• Overseeing the monthly financial close and reporting process, ensuring accurate and timely information is produced.
• Supporting the preparation of budgets, forecasts and longer-term financial plans.
• Managing cash flow forecasting and contributing to wider group reporting requirements.
• Taking responsibility for statutory accounts preparation and supporting the external audit process.
• Maintaining effective financial controls and identifying opportunities to strengthen existing processes.
• Ensuring financial activities remain compliant with relevant legislation, regulations and internal requirements.
• Providing financial analysis and insight to support business decisions and operational performance.
• Contributing to procurement activity and supporting the management of insurance-related matters.
• Working alongside colleagues on IT-related requirements and financial performance reporting.
• Reviewing and improving internal processes and procedures across the finance function.
• Deputising for the Head of Finance & IT when required.
• Supporting, mentoring and developing a small finance team, including two direct reports.

The ideal candidate for the Financial Controller role will have:

• A professional accountancy qualification such as CIMA, ACCA or ACA, or be part-qualified with extensive relevant experience.
• Strong technical accounting experience across financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Previous experience of managing or developing finance team members.
• Strong Excel and financial systems experience, alongside excellent attention to detail.
• A proactive approach with strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
