We are delighted to be partnering with a large and progressive public sector organisation to recruit a Principal Accountant into its Corporate Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional looking to take on a strategic role within a complex and dynamic environment. You will play a key role in supporting senior leadership, contributing to financial planning and decision-making, and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality finance service.

The Role

As Principal Accountant, you will:

  • Provide expert financial advice and support to senior managers and stakeholders.
  • Lead on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and statutory reporting activities.
  • Deliver high-quality financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, legislation and financial regulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial strategies and policies.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvement, efficiency and innovation.
  • Develop effective relationships across the organisation and act as a trusted financial adviser.
  • Support, mentor and develop members of the finance team.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and proactive finance professional who can demonstrate:

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent).
  • Significant experience within a complex finance environment.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial management skills.
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

Experience within the public sector or local government would be advantageous but is not essential.
