Overview of the Assistant Principal Property and Planning Lawyer position

Sellick Partnership are pleased to be currently recruiting an Assistant Principal Property and Planning Lawyer to join a busy but friendly London Council. Our client is seeking an Assistant Principal Property and Planning Lawyer who has experience dealing with either property or planning law in a local authority setting to join their team on a permanent basis. This opportunity is on a hybrid working basis, with a preference for one to two day per week in the office, our client is ideally seeking someone who is able to work full-time hours but part-time requests will be considered. This role is a brilliant opportunity for a qualified lawyer who is looking to further their career in collaborative, newly merged team who get a really interesting variety of work.


Key responsibilities of the Assistant Principal Property and Planning Lawyer

  • To advise on matters arising in areas of Planning, Property and Regeneration, covering multiple clients, including local authorities' casework which includes complex corporate projects
  • To advise on high profile matters, including advising elected members at council meetings in a proactive and politically sensitive manner
  • To act as a senior liaison point for clients and to line manage, provide professional support, supervision and development for more junior colleagues in the Planning, Property and Regeneration team
  • To support the Principal Lawyer in the running, development and performance of the team, including deputising in the Principal Lawyer's absence
  • To advise and have conduct of legal files on behalf of all the clients of the council, including local authorities, housing associations and schools


Experience/qualifications required for the Assistant Principal Property and Planning Lawyer position

  • Must be a qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx) with a current practicing certificate - all PQE levels will be considered
  • Able to work on a hybrid basis one day per week in the office
  • Our client is ideally seeking someone who is able to work full-time, part-time requests will be considered
  • You must have strong experience in property law ideally from local authority but candidates from other sectors are encouraged to apply
