Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyer | Competitive Salary | Hybrid Working

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Costs Draftsman or Costs Lawyer to join a highly regarded national legal practice with an outstanding reputation for client service, employee wellbeing and career development.

This is an ideal role for an ambitious costs professional looking to join a growing and supportive team, working on a varied caseload while benefiting from high-quality work, flexible working arrangements and genuine progression opportunities.

The Opportunity

You'll play a key role within an established costs team, supporting a broad range of matters from bill preparation through to detailed assessment proceedings.

Your workload is likely to include:

  • Preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed and Provisional Assessment
  • Managing costs matters through the Court process
  • Drafting costs-related documents and correspondence
  • Negotiating and progressing costs claims
  • Providing technical costs advice to fee earners and clients
  • Advising clients throughout the lifecycle of their matters
  • Assisting with costs budgeting and related applications where required
  • Attending hearings and undertaking advocacy where appropriate
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members
  • Maintaining accurate time recording and file management
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues, clients and key stakeholders

About You

  • Previous experience as a Costs Draftsman, Costs Lawyer or within a specialist costs environment
  • Ideally a minimum of 2 years' experience working either in-house or for an external costs provider
  • Strong understanding of costs procedures and Court rules
  • Experience preparing Bills of Costs and progressing matters through assessment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to managing priorities
  • Good IT skills and experience with time recording systems
  • ACL, CILEX or other relevant legal qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential
