Electoral Services Manager

Full-time (minimum of 30 hours)

Our client, a Local Authority based in Essex is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Elections Manager to lead and manage the Council's Electoral Services Team.

This position is anticipated to be ongoing for a period of 3-6 months.

Responsibilities of the Electoral Services Manager:

  • Lead, manage and support the Electoral Services Team, ensuring statutory duties are fully met in line with all relevant legislation and Electoral Commission guidance
  • Oversee the compilation, maintenance and supply of the Register of Electors for this Borough Council
  • Act as the Council's technical expert on all matters relating to elections and electoral registration
  • Manage and deliver the Annual Electoral Canvass, ensuring compliance and high-quality data.
  • Support the Returning Officer in the planning, organisation and delivery of the May 2026 County Council elections within the Borough
  • Lead on associated duties including Community Governance Reviews, Polling District and Polling Place Reviews, and other statutory or non‑statutory electoral projects.

Experience required for the Electoral Services Manager:

  • Strong working knowledge of electoral law, regulations, and Electoral Commission guidance.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering elections and maintaining the electoral register within a local authority setting.
