Sellick Partnership is currently recruiting for an experienced Employee Relations Consultant join our client based in Coventry, this role if offered on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 3 days a week onsite.

The Employee Relations Consultant will provide advice, support and coaching to managers on absence management cases, to help embed the new sickness absence policy, processes, toolkits and recording system to ensure robust absence management and a reduction in absence levels.

The ideal candidate will provide professional HR advice and support to investigating officers, chairs of hearing and appeals panels across the council on a wide variety of employee relations activities,

The duties of the Employee Relations Consultant will include

  • Managing a caseload of sickness absence and ill health cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution
  • Coaching and supporting managers to apply absence management policies confidently, fairly and consistently
  • Providing expert employee relations advice on complex attendance issues and related casework
  • Analysing absence data, identify trends and establish root causes
  • Developing practical action plans and recommendations that improve attendance outcomes
  • Supporting formal processes, investigations, hearings and appeals where required
  • Designing and delivering training to build management capability in absence management and employee relations
  • Contributing to the review and improvement of HR policies, procedures and toolkits

The Employee Relations Consultant will ideally have:

  • Experience of managing sickness absence cases and employee relations casework
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and its practical application to attendance management
  • Experience coaching, supporting and constructively challenging managers
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform decision making
  • A CIPD qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience within a local authority

The Employee Relations Consultant will need to have excellent communication skills and effectively be able to communicate to stakeholders of all levels. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have an impeccable eye for detail and accuracy to ensure all workload is carried out effectively and efficiently. They will also need to able to prioritise their workload and be efficient and effective to meet unpredictable deadlines and deal with conflicting demands, whilst working in a high-pressured environment.
