We are partnering with a forward‑thinking London local authority to appoint an experienced Head of Revenue Accounts to lead its revenue budgeting, monitoring and business partnering function at a critical point in the council's financial planning cycle.

This is a high‑profile leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer, with responsibility for ensuring a robust, transparent and sustainable approach to revenue financial management across the organisation.

The Role of the Head of Revenue Accounts

As Head of Revenue Accounts, you will take strategic ownership of the council's Medium‑Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) and annual revenue budget process, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, statutory requirements and the wider financial environment.

You will lead and develop a team of professional accountants, delivering a high‑quality Finance Business Partnering service to revenue services and supporting senior officers and Elected Members with clear, timely and insightful financial advice.

Key responsibilities of the Head of Revnenue Accounts include:

  • Leading the coordination and delivery of the revenue budget and MTFS, including income projections, pressures and savings
  • Producing robust draft and final revenue budget reports, including Council Tax Resolution and supporting papers for Council and Members
  • Ensuring effective revenue budget monitoring, validation and reporting throughout the year
  • Supporting the closure of accounts to revenue stage, working closely with Corporate Accounts to deliver statutory statements and external audit
  • Overseeing the completion of all revenue statutory returns
  • Acting as a senior advisor to the CFO, Corporate Leadership Team and Members on revenue financial matters
  • Driving continuous improvement, strong governance and compliance with legislative and professional standards

About You

We are keen to speak with senior local government finance professionals who can demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role within local government or a comparable complex public‑sector environment
  • Strong track record in revenue budget setting, monitoring and forecasting, including MTFS development
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate high‑performing finance teams
  • Experience presenting to and engaging effectively with Elected Members and senior stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of public‑sector financial management, governance and statutory reporting
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial issues for non‑financial audiences
  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification (CIPFA preferred or equivalent)
