Overview of the Principal Contracts Lawyer position

Sellick Partnership are delighted to be recruiting a Principal Contracts Lawyer to join a busy but friendly London Council. Our client is looking for a Principal Lawyer who has experience dealing with a variety of commercial contracts and procurement matters to join their team on a permanent basis. This opportunity is on a hybrid working basis, with a preference for one to two days per week in the office. Our client is ideally seeking someone who is able to work full-time hours. This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, qualified contracts lawyer seeking career progression and the chance to develop their skills in a management role.

Key responsibilities of the Principal Contracts Lawyer

  • Dealing with matters relating to commercial contracts and procurement, including:
    • The new procurement act
    • Construction contracts
    • Framework agreements
    • Provider selection regime and contracts relating to public health
  • To support the development of HB Public Law jointly with the other Principal Lawyers and Chief Legal Advisors
  • To be a lead lawyer in their specialism by leading the Contracts and Procurement team at all times
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with senior client managers
  • Advising council, cabinet and committee meetings on law and procedure

Experience/qualifications required for the Principal Contracts Lawyer position

  • Must be a qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx) with a current practicing certificate - all PQE levels will be considered
  • Able to work on a hybrid basis, one to two days per week in the office
  • This role ideally requires someone who can work full-time hours; part-time requests will be considered
  • You must have strong experience in contracts law, ideally within a local authority setting, with a strong knowledge of local authority governance
