Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager

About the Role

An established and growing construction consultancy is seeking a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join its team on a 3-month contract basis in Manchester.

This is a key commercial role responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of allocated construction projects, ensuring full end-to-end service delivery and strong commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting project delivery teams by defining, managing, and controlling all commercial requirements from feasibility through to final account.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare feasibility studies and procurement reports

  • Apply value management techniques at project inception

  • Lead estimating and cost planning activities, including ownership and presentation of cost plans

  • Support and participate in procurement processes (pre-qualification, tendering, analysis, selection, contract preparation)

  • Produce tender documentation

  • Manage post-contract cost variances and change control processes

  • Oversee cost checking, valuations, and financial control procedures

  • Produce and present monthly cost reports

  • Lead value engineering and life cycle costing exercises

  • Negotiate and agree final accounts

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and service excellence


About You

We are looking for a commercially experienced professional with:

  • Proven experience in a construction project environment

  • Strong knowledge of cost management and procurement processes

  • Excellent financial and contractual awareness

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a delivery team

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
